Flight Operations Specialist

••• Overseas/Non-Combat Position •••

[Contingent] Responsible for overseeing the setup, flight watch and safe completion of LA+SG’s flying program.  Must be able to supervise shift teams, ensure all operations tasks are fulfilled, in accordance with company procedures, and communicate effectively with both internal and external personnel.

Some Key Duties Include:

Operational Management

  • Maintain files of extended flight and navigational information, such as weight and balance data, cross-country kits, navigational publications, radio and landing facility charts, flight information manuals, maps, and other pertinent guides and notices
  • Compile, prepare, and distribute accurate and detailed correspondence, such as aviation operations reports, orders, schedules, aviation safety reports, and flight schedules, flight logs and other files
  • Compile and display flight planning information including airfield diagram, status of navigational aids, map of local flying area, special use airspace, and crash grid chart
  • Coordinate with all relevant elements to provide critical flight related information including but not limited to: Special Instructions (SPINS), Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS), weather, etc.
  • Maintain and issue flying regulations, as well as pilot and flight crew’s information file
  • Monitor flights, maintain watch of aircraft traffic flow, and plan accordingly, make critical game changing decisions operationally, and inform flight personnel and leadership as required
  • Maintain helicopter traffic count
  • General administrative duties as assigned

Trip Setup

  • Enter flights into applicable software programs, set up all services for flight crew scheduling and safeguarding compliance
  • Assist aviators in preparing flight plans, process flight plans and arrival reports for transmission to flight and air traffic control centers
  • Assist flight-line personnel in assigning crew and passengers to aircraft

Dispatch Flights

  • Conduct global IFR/VFR, short range and ultra-long range flight planning in compliance with worldwide flight safety and flight planning regulations

Liaising

  • Maintain communications internally and externally with leadership, crews and customers
  • Maintain flight following for helicopter aircraft operating in uncontrolled airspace
  • Coordinate/assist flight crews as needed.
  • Conduct communications search and initiate SAR on overdue helicopters

Minimum Skills and Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience which must include the following: Visual Flight Rules (VFR) traffic monitoring; knowledge of ATC rules, regulations, and techniques; receiving and updating helicopter positions reports; alerting appropriate personnel for overdue aircraft reports; providing assistance to pilots with weather updates; and updating all flight following logs
  • Must be a Graduate of an approved DoD/FAA Air Traffic Control (ATC) course OR individual shall have aviation-related experience as an aircrew/ dispatcher/ flight follower with a part 121 or part 135 operator
  • Possess FAA form 7220-1 and completion of the Airman’s Written Test
  • Complete knowledge of regulations and requirements
  • Maintain all licenses to comply with regulatory agencies
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of multidisciplinary team
  • Valid Passport
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to document work as per regulations

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluent English
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Complete knowledge of regulations and requirements
  • Clear speaking skills
  • Maintain all licenses to comply with regulatory agencies
  • Willingness to work as a team and assume any task when requested
  • Possess quality decision making capability and mental alertness to ensure safety
  • Must be reliable and punctual when reporting to work
  • Flexible
